General Information
Where is RSE Audio equipment made?
RSE Audio equipment is designed and built in Sumy, Ukraine. We are a boutique manufacturer, and our units are assembled, configured, tested and calibrated in-house before shipment.
Are RSE Audio units built to order?
Many RSE Audio products are built or configured for a specific order. Depending on the model, this may include mains-voltage configuration, transformer options, controls, internal configuration or other customer-requested specifications.
If you require a non-standard configuration, please contact us before ordering so we can confirm technical feasibility, price and expected production time.
Why can specifications or internal layouts differ from older reviews or photos?
As a small manufacturer, we continue to refine our products during their production life. This can include changes to power supplies, filtering, PCB layouts, mechanical construction, metering or other circuit details.
These revisions are intended to improve performance, reliability, manufacturability or serviceability without changing the fundamental purpose of the product.
Unless explicitly stated otherwise, the specifications on the current product page describe the version currently offered for sale. If you are comparing a current unit with an older review, please contact us if you need confirmation of a particular specification.
Choosing & Using RSE Audio Gear
Are RSE Audio units suitable for mastering applications?
Several RSE Audio processors are designed to work well in mix-bus and mastering applications.
For example, the VMU-1 provides stereo vari-mu compression with stepped controls and adjustable attack, release and side-chain filtering, while the RTS1908 provides controllable tube saturation, transformer coloration and wet/dry blending.
Other RSE Audio products are intended primarily for tracking, individual channels or other applications, so we recommend checking the individual product page when selecting equipment for a mastering chain.
How do RSE Audio coloration and saturation processors approach analog colour?
Our aim is generally to give the engineer control over how strongly the analog circuitry contributes to the result rather than designing every processor around one fixed sonic character.
Depending on the model, this can involve tube operating conditions, input drive, output level, transformer options, wet/dry blending, frequency-dependent saturation or other controls.
The available range and control method differ between products: some units use continuously variable controls while others use stepped controls where repeatability is important.
How should I gain-stage an RSE Audio unit with my audio interface?
Most RSE Audio studio processors are designed for professional line-level operation. Start with moderate interface output level and the processor close to unity gain, then increase drive as required for the desired amount of compression, saturation or coloration.
There is no universal conversion between dBFS in a DAW and analog dBu: this depends on the calibration of your audio interface. Consult the interface specifications if precise alignment is required.
When comparing processed and bypassed signals, we strongly recommend matching their perceived output levels as closely as possible. Even a small level difference can influence an A/B comparison.
If you need help matching a particular interface to an RSE Audio unit, contact us with the interface model and your current settings.
Operation & Troubleshooting
I hear unexpected hum or noise. What should I check?
Hum and noise in an analog studio system can originate from the processor itself, cabling, grounding, a patchbay, another connected device or the mains-power arrangement.
We recommend checking the following:
- Use correctly wired balanced audio cables wherever balanced connections are provided.
- Temporarily connect the RSE Audio unit directly to your interface, bypassing patchbays and other equipment.
- Check whether the noise changes when the unit is placed in bypass.
- If possible, test with another pair of known-good cables.
- Check for ground loops between interconnected studio equipment.
- If your RSE Audio product provides an audio Ground/Lift function, try the alternative setting according to the instructions for that product.
Never disconnect, remove or defeat the protective mains earth in an attempt to eliminate noise.
If the problem remains, contact us and include the product model, serial number, connected equipment and a short description of your signal chain.
Is it normal for tube equipment to become warm during operation?
Yes. Vacuum tubes and their associated power-supply circuitry generate heat during normal operation.
Install the equipment so that its ventilation openings are not obstructed and allow adequate airflow around the chassis. Follow any model-specific installation requirements provided in the user manual.
If a unit becomes unusually hot, produces an abnormal smell, shows smoke or behaves unexpectedly, switch it off, disconnect it from mains power and contact RSE Audio before further use.
Can I replace the tubes myself?
Tubes are serviceable components, but the replacement procedure depends on the product.
Tube equipment can contain hazardous internal voltages, including stored voltages that may remain after the unit has been disconnected from mains power. Do not open or disassemble the equipment unless you are qualified to service electronic equipment and have the appropriate instructions for the specific model.
Contact us with the model and serial number and we can advise on the appropriate replacement tubes and service procedure.
19″ Rack-Mount Equipment
The product photos show a unit without rack ears. Are rack ears included?
Yes. Unless otherwise stated on the product page, our 19″ rack-mount units include the required rack-mounting ears and hardware. The mounting parts may be packed separately inside the shipping box.
Does your equipment support 110–120 V mains power?
Products that use an internal or dedicated RSE Audio power supply can generally be configured for the mains-voltage range specified on the relevant product page.
For products offered in both 100–120 V and 200–240 V versions, please specify the destination country or required mains voltage when ordering.
Do not connect a unit to a mains voltage other than the voltage range marked on the unit.
500-Series Equipment
Will my third-party 500-series rack support RSE Audio tube modules?
Not necessarily. Tube-based 500-series modules can require more current than conventional solid-state modules, and some third-party racks cannot provide sufficient power under all conditions.
Before purchasing, check both the available current per slot and the total power available from the rack. If you are unsure about a particular chassis, contact us with the exact rack model and the RSE Audio modules you intend to use.
RSE Audio 4-slot and 6-slot racks use a high-current power supply and are designed to support our tube-based modules.
Which third-party 500-series racks have been used with RSE Audio modules?
The following table reflects combinations currently known to us. Compatibility can depend on the specific RSE module, rack revision, installed module combination and available power.

Warranty & Service
What warranty is provided with RSE Audio equipment?
New RSE Audio equipment is supported by RSE Audio. Where a one-year manufacturer's warranty is stated on the product page or order documentation, it is a voluntary commercial warranty provided in addition to any mandatory rights available to the customer under applicable law.
A commercial manufacturer's warranty does not exclude, restrict or replace any statutory consumer rights that cannot legally be limited or waived.
If you experience a problem, contact us with your order information, product model, serial number and a description of the issue. We will first help diagnose the problem and then advise on the appropriate service procedure.
What should I do if my unit needs service?
Please contact us before sending equipment back. Many setup and operational issues can be identified remotely, and in some cases a local professional technician may be the most practical service option.
If physical service is required, we will provide instructions based on the product, location and nature of the problem.
Do not ship equipment to RSE Audio without first obtaining return or service instructions.
Returns
Can I return an RSE Audio product if I change my mind?
Return rights depend on the applicable law and the circumstances of the purchase.
Where applicable consumer law provides a statutory right of withdrawal or cancellation, RSE Audio will honour that right in accordance with the applicable legal requirements. For qualifying distance sales to consumers in the European Union, this generally includes a 14-day right of withdrawal, subject to the exceptions provided by applicable law.
Where no statutory change-of-mind return right applies, RSE Audio does not provide an automatic return right for correctly supplied, non-defective products. We may nevertheless consider a return request on a case-by-case basis.
Please contact us before arranging any return and see our Refund Policy for the full return procedure.
Who pays for return shipping?
For a statutory change-of-mind withdrawal, the customer is generally responsible for the direct cost of returning the goods where permitted by applicable law and where the customer has been informed of this in advance.
For other non-defective returns accepted by RSE Audio, the customer will normally be responsible for return shipping unless we expressly agree otherwise.
If a product is defective, damaged, incorrectly supplied or applicable law requires RSE Audio to bear particular return costs, those costs will be handled accordingly.
Please contact us before arranging return shipping so that we can provide the correct return address and any necessary packaging or carrier instructions.
What if my unit was made or configured specifically for my order?
Many RSE Audio products are assembled or configured after an order is placed. This alone does not necessarily make a product custom-made or remove any statutory right of withdrawal that may apply.
Where a product is genuinely manufactured to specifications individually requested by the customer or includes substantial non-standard technical or cosmetic modifications, a statutory change-of-mind right of withdrawal may not apply where applicable law provides such an exception.
Where an order is treated as customer-specific or personalised, the relevant specification and any applicable cancellation or return conditions will be communicated as part of the ordering process.
This does not affect rights relating to products that are defective, damaged, incorrectly supplied or do not conform to the agreed specification.
What should I do if my order arrives damaged, defective or incorrect?
Please contact us as soon as reasonably possible after discovering the problem.
Keep the packaging and, where practical, take photographs of the shipping box, packaging and equipment. This can help us deal with carrier claims and determine the fastest solution.
Do not attempt internal repairs or modifications before contacting us if the product may require warranty or transport-damage service.
