The RSE VMU-1 is a dual-channel all-tube vari-mu compressor designed for stereo bus, mastering, and program compression.

Each channel uses a fully balanced tube signal path with transformer-coupled input and output. The standard version uses six vacuum tubes across the two channels, while the version with analog MIX control uses ten. Both versions employ six transformers in total, providing transformer-coupled inputs and outputs while maintaining a fully balanced tube signal path throughout the gain-reduction circuitry.

Attack and release are independently selectable, and a four-position sidechain high-pass filter allows low-frequency content to have less influence on gain reduction. The two compressor channels can operate independently or be linked for stereo processing.

The optional MIX version adds parallel compression directly in the analog signal path.

The VMU-1 is suitable for applications ranging from subtle stereo-bus control to more pronounced gain reduction, while retaining direct control over attack, release, ratio, and detector response.
